Why meaningful design matters more than ever

When design has purpose behind it, it doesn’t just catch the eye — it connects, communicates, and lasts.

Kev Price

Brand Designer

While design is often judged by how it looks, the truth is: good design isn’t just about appearances — it’s about meaning.

Early in my career, I was obsessed with making things look 'nice'. Trending colours, sleek typefaces, unusual layouts.

But I realised over time: Design without purpose is just decoration.

It might impress for a moment, but it won’t stick.

Meaningful design asks deeper questions: What’s the story? Who is this for? Why does it matter? That’s when design becomes problem-solving.

Design as storytelling

Every brand has a story.

One of my favourite parts of working with clients is hearing why they started, what drives them, and where they’re headed.

Design translates that story into something people can see and feel.
A strong brand identity or website doesn’t just look good, it shows what you stand for. And when it resonates, it builds trust that lasts.

Impact over impressions

We’ve all seen designs that wow us at first glance, then fade from memory. That’s surface-level design.

Meaningful design creates lasting impact. It makes people remember, act, and return.

It’s the difference between a business that looks good, and a brand that feels right.

Collaboration is everything

Great design doesn’t happen in isolation.

It comes from conversation, listening, and shared insights. I always tell clients: "you know your business better than anyone".

My role is to take that knowledge and bring it to life visually — so your audience sees it, feels it, and trusts it.

The value of doing it right

Design done poorly is a cost. A logo that doesn’t resonate, a confusing website, marketing that feels off-brand.

But design done well is an investment. It pays for itself many times over — creating clarity, confidence, and growth.

It also gives you something priceless: pride in your brand. That pride is contagious, and your audience feels it too.

Final thought

For me, design has never been about making things look nice for the sake of it. It’s about creating work that represents the people and passion behind a business. That’s why I focus on meaningful design — the kind that makes you stand out, stick in people’s minds, and grow with purpose.
